Thousands of sailors and Marines will leave Norfolk by sea on Monday for the 22nd Fleet Week in New York City.

New York’s celebration of sea services, from Wednesday to May 27, gives people a chance to meet military personnel and see their ships and provides sailors and Marines a week of community service and fun in the city.

Heading up the coast are the amphibious assault ship Iwo Jima, the guided missile cruiser Vella Gulf, patrol coastal ships Tempest, Hurricane and Thunderbolt and the guided missile destroyer Roosevelt. They will parade into New York Harbor on Wednesday morning, joined by two U.S. Coast Guard ships and five Canadian naval ships.
