As reported in the Eagle two weeks ago, Thor Equities will bring dozens of amusement rides and the John Strong Sideshow to his property — the former Astroland site — in Coney Island this summer as part of the festival.

Now Joe Sitt, president of Thor, reports that the above-named icons have negotiated new leases and will be part of the festival this summer. He also said more than 1,000 jobs will be created to run it.

“You just can’t have a Coney Island summer without a Nathan’s hotdog or a burger on the Boardwalk,” said Sitt, adding that he thinks this summer “will be the best we have had in decades.”

This announcement confirms that 100 percent of Thor Equity-owned land in Coney Island will be active this summer, according to Sitt.

The Festival By The Sea is scheduled to open in mid-May and will stay open through Labor Day weekend.
