Frying Pan Re-Opening

The Frying Pan along the Hudson River was temporarily closed as the owners were unable to obtain the proper leasing permits. Now that the permits have been submitted Frying Pan workers prepare minor renovations at its location at Pier 66 along the West Side Highway in preparation for its opening by the end of the week. A Lesson That Startled: Kayaking the Hudson

LIKE many other people raised in Baltimore, Ray Fusco grew up with the Chesapeake Bay’s waters pumping through his veins. Fishing and boating were big parts of his youth.

But when Mr. Fusco, a professional kayak instructor and the founder of New York City’s Mayor’s Cup kayak race, moved here three years ago, he was struck by residents’ disconnection from the Hudson River, the western border of this city of 16,000. (more…)

A Commute From Rockaway, Now With a Harbor View

Amid whipping wind and rain and beneath gloomy gray skies, a new ferry service was born yesterday, setting sail from Breezy Point, at the tip of the Rockaways, to Lower Manhattan, with a stop in Brooklyn along the way. A total of 51 commuters were aboard for the first two trips, putting on brave faces and rain-slicked coats, and carrying umbrellas. (more…)
