NY Waterfront Tales Hearken to Bad Old Days
A detective for the New York Waterfront Commission was indicted on allegations he lied about cheating on a police entrance exam – by getting a copy of it from a former New Jersey Waterfront Commissioner. A 2-year state investigation culminated in a scathing 60-page report that found the two-state commission “plagued by abuse and corruption.” The commission was created in the 1950s to root out mob influence on the waterfront. American shad is important as both a commercial and recreational speciesWith the American shad population in the Hudson River at historic lows, DEC is proposing to close recreational and commercial fishing for the species in the Hudson, as well as prohibiting commercial landings in marine waters. Recreational Marine Fishing Licenses and Freshwater Fishing Change Proposals Announced
DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis recently announced that recreational marine fishing licenses are available for sale in New York State. Just as with recreational freshwater fishing licenses, marine licenses can be purchased on-line, by telephone at 1-86-NY-DECALS (1-866-933-2257), by mail, or by visiting any of DEC’s 1,500 license sales outlets statewide (see Purchasing a Sporting License on DEC’s website for details).
