Paddlers take to the Hudson River for 150-mile trip

July 3, 2008

Twenty-seven paddlers will launch their kayaks in Albany this morning for the eighth annual Great Hudson River Paddle.

Their 150-mile journey downriver ends in New York City on July 13th. During the course of the 11-day trip, other paddlers will join the core group for part of the journey. Celebrations are planned in riverside communities where the paddlers will spend the night.

Organizers include the Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. They want to promote a balance of economic development and regional planning with natural and cultural resource protection, education, and public access to the river.

Since 1994, the Hudson River Greenway has designated 85 public access sites as part of the Greenway Water Trail.
