Yonkers: Ferry Service to Manhattan

Ferry service linking downtown Yonkers to Lower Manhattan is scheduled to start in May, Gov. George E. Pataki announced at a news conference yesterday. It will be the only ferry connection between Westchester County and Manhattan, said a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The ferry will connect the pier off Main Street in Yonkers to Battery Park City, and the ride is expected to last 45 minutes. The Port Authority awarded a $4.2 million, two-year contract this year to New York Water Taxi to operate the route. The fare has not been announced.
